Polyester fleece pants that turn playground slides into rockets

A Japanese tweet went viral: “My kid’s Uniqlo fleece leggings made the slide so fast they couldn’t stop.” It’s funny—but also useful intel for parents.
This mom wanted to warn others, and I totally get it—but it was so funny I laughed out loud.
Too fast on the slide…

Size bought: 90
Color: 32 BEIGE
Fit: slightly big
Bought these as winter outerwear, sized up one and put them over regular pants. Ankles stay covered even on a trike—nice. But at the park, the slide was shocking: way too fast. On a long slide they picked up speed and rolled at the landing. They literally rolled. My child just turned two and isn’t great at slides yet, so that may be part of it. If your little one wears these on a slide, keep an eye out.
Polyester slides more
These fleece pants are polyester; smooth synthetic fibers have little texture, so friction drops and you accelerate on playground slides. Many toddler winter bottoms (Uniqlo, Nishimatsuya, etc.) are tights-like for ease of movement—great for mobility, slippery on slides.
Static makes it worse
Plastic slides plus synthetic pants build static with one run. Feeling static on your pants is a hint: you’ll be extra fast. If tops are also synthetic (full fleece outfit), you get “double boost” and landings get chaotic.
Slow it down
- Put cotton on top (sweatshirt/long-sleeve) to add some brake
- Bend knees and prep feet for landing
- Avoid extra-long slides (roller slides, long chutes) when dressed in full synthetics
Replies said “my kid rolled at the exit”
Several parents said their kids tumbled off the end; one video had a kid yelling “I hit my head!” It’s usually harmless on short toddler slides, but on longer ones it’s worth a little caution. 😅
