Looking for a better container for ground coffee

I drink a lot of coffee. Iâm not picky about beansâsometimes a specialty shop, sometimes Starbucks, and when lazy I grab a big value bag at the supermarket (often the huge NescafĂ© size).
Clipping the silver pouches got tedious
Ground coffee usually comes in a silver-lined pouch. As it empties, the scoop stops reaching, bag clips wonât reach, folding leaves extra bag flapping⊠itâs annoying.

IKEA bag clip: even when folded, it doesnât feel airtight.
My wife quietly decanted into a cute jar
The left glass jar in the hero photo is by Chabatree. The wood lid has a gasket so it seals.
We also had IKEAâs KORKEN jar („149, dirt cheap): http://www.ikea.com/jp/ja/catalog/products/00213544/
I tried storing coffee in it for a while.
Thick glass was heavyâŠ
We use slim 100-yen baskets in the fridge to organize. Adding heavy glass jars threw off balance; grabbing a basket edge felt like it might drop. So I bought a lightweight plastic container (middle one in the hero photo).

Stackable, multiple sizes, lid looked sealing. I moved coffee in⊠and the next day the fridge smelled like coffee. Not airtight. Now it holds baking soda đ
I want a good canister for ground coffee
Flavor drops when coffee oxidizes; grounds expose more surface than beans, so storage matters. The âbestâ would be keep in the pouch, squeeze air out, clip, ziplock, freezeâusable but annoying. I want a small jar in the fridge for daily use. To Amazon! Amazon.co.jp: ăłăŒăăŒ ăăŁăăčăżăŒ
Hario Coffee Canister MCN-200B
Similar structure to Chabatree. Lever on the lid for easy open/close. Manual diagram: MCN_1012.pdf. Reviews split between âseals fineâ and âslight aroma leakââokay for moisture, maybe not perfect for coffee aroma.
SSB Sealed Jar 1L
Same style as IKEAâs swing-top jarâairtight, good for jam/soups too. Heavy for my fridge setup, so no. Best-seller in storage; many use it for beans.
Kalita Coffee Stocker 400N
Coffee-gear brand Kalita. Heatproof glass with silicone gasket lid; size/weight feel right. Looks plain but lives in the fridge, so fine. Reviews mention slight aroma leak; most say itâs okay.
ZERO JAPAN Coffee Canister 200 (ceramic)
Ceramicânice look/feel, but heavy for my use. Opaque, so Iâd probably forget to restock.
Melitta Stainless Canister
From Melitta (yes, similar to Kalita names). Our filters are Melitta. Stainless body is rare; reviewers love the feel.
Sawai Coffee storage can
Retro tea-can vibe. Shipping to Kanto adds cost (~„1,200 total). In âcustomers also bought,â I saw a 200+ review, â 4.5 coffee bean monster:
Sawai Coffee beans
2 kg for „2,500, free Kanto shipping. Whole bean, so easier to store. Reviews say great cost performance. Their site shows theyâre a mail-order coffee shop (Rakuten/Yahoo!/Ponpare awards). HQ: Tottori. Might try it; will report back.
Other cheap coffee
Seen at restaurant-supply stores and Costco. Mild, unobtrusive flavorâno big strengths/weaknesses. ~„1,000 for 900 g; per 2 kg it beats Sawai on price, but itâs pre-ground so loses on freshness.
Summary
Coffee varies wildly by bean and roastâitâs fun. Even as a casual drinker, looking at containers and beans makes me want to tweak my setup. Maybe Iâll hunt cute cups too.
Postscript
Found a light, truly airtight containerâand bought it!
