Taming outlet clutter with a cable box—options beyond Bluelounge

Behind the TV: two wall outlets, ~10 devices, dust everywhere. Dust + humidity on power strips can spark “tracking” fires, so I wanted to hide strips in a box—just not pay Bluelounge prices for something that sits behind furniture.
My Bluelounge boxes (the benchmark)
- Big CableBox: fits 8–10 outlet strips (I use a 10-port Buffalo with top/side outlets).
- Mini: fits ~5 outlets; pairing them works.
- Cons: white plastic yellows under UV (sun/fluorescents) and still lets in some dust via side slits. Great design, but ~¥3,000 each stings for hidden gear.
What I want instead
- Under ¥2,000
- Only front/back slots (no top holes = less dust; I don’t charge on top)
- Similar size to Bluelounge, maybe shorter
- Flame-resistant plastic preferred, not essential
Alternatives I found (Amazon JP)
Buffalo’s clone
Adds top/bottom slots for charging/heat. Street ~¥1,700. Reviews: rubber-foot adhesive can ooze; many holes mean more dust.
No-name China clone
Looks like a logo-stripped Bluelounge; lighter plastic. Some units arrive dirty (tape residue, oil, dings). Cheap if you’ll clean/return and hide it.
Made-in-Japan with lid window
Multiple colors/sizes; a lid window lets you flip power-strip switches or charge. Build quality is decent for the price; extra holes mean some dust.
Paulownia/wood options
Slim, Muji-ish vibe, but lots of vents = dust. Reviews say thin material dents; quality feels flimsy.
Bottom line
If looks matter, Bluelounge still wins—just hide it from UV. For hidden spots, the Japan-made lid-window box or even the scuffed China clone are fine budget picks. Whatever you buy, crack it open occasionally: dust + humidity is what causes tracking fires.
